Title: Sleepless Nights
Author: Ratha
Characters: Mostly Asch, mentions of Guy and Luke
Pairings: Guy/Asch/Luke
Genre: Angst
Rating: PGish
Summary: Asch is alone with his thoughts after everything seems to be falling apart around him, and he's not sure he can keep himself together.

Just a little Tales of the Abyss drabble inspired by RP events in AIM. My first ToA foray.

Asch sighed softly as he stared out the window of his room. Once again it looked like a sleepless night. Luke, of course, was sleeping like a log, leaving his original to his thoughts. And they were depressing thoughts indeed.

He still didn't know what had caused Luke's odd behavior. He'd thought they were past all of that 'worthless replica' tripe. Asch had acknowledged Luke as his brother in public. (True it had been to rogue formicry researchers that were going to die anyway, but the point still stood.) Hell, he loved the idiot. And yet, out of the blue, Luke was suddenly calling himself worthless and saying that Asch still hated him and all that other rubbish. It had hurt, deeply, and nothing Asch had said seemed to have any effect.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, Guy had vanished. That had hurt as much as, if not more than, Luke's behavior. Asch couldn't understand why he had left without telling anyone; he'd been gone far too long for it to be a mere visit. He wasn't in trouble, was he? Asch had voiced his fears to his father. Not that that had done any good, it had quickly become a screaming match that Suzanne had had to break up.

Asch sighed and rubbed his face. The blonde swordsman had been a stable part of Asch's life after he'd returned. He'd been someone to talk to, when Asch couldn't talk to Luke. He'd been the friend Asch had always wanted him to be. Asch had even fallen in love with him as well. But he'd never gotten the chance to tell him. Right when Asch had needed him most- to keep him sane, to keep him from losing hope- he was gone...

Now there was nothing to hold back the self-doubt and fear. He couldn't shake the feeling he was losing everything again. That he didn't belong here anymore. The argument with his father hadn't helped anything. Duke fon Fabre had all but called him a stupid soldier whose business was not the affairs of the Fabre family. His own son! Maybe he was just a stupid soldier now. He really should have returned to his duties in Daath as soon as he was well enough. He wouldn't have had to deal with all these head- and heartaches.

He sighed and rested his forehead against the glass, closing his eyes. "I can't handle this alone..." he whispered.

But he really had no choice now.

I hope to hear more of this story soon, cause it really hooked me! XD
Since you titled it as Guy/Asch/Luke, does that mean there's a possibility of this going in a direction Asch isn't even aware of yet? >x>

And just offhandedly... Isn't rping great? ¦D

Heheh. Thanks. We'll see how things go and if the muse bites my ass again. XD

Well, the RP has been largely Guy/Asch/Luke since Asch was restored. It's just poor Asch is getting caught in the middle of constant possessive fights that aren't Luke and Guy's fault. It's reached the point where they have to keep Luke unconscious and Guy has all but fled to Malkuth.

And naturally, Jade is going to figure out part of what the hell's going on. Of course, with him, you just know he's gonna figure it out at the worst and in the weirdest way. XD
